Commercial recordings of arias, operatic excerpts and songs made by Rossi Lemeni are listed by year, month and day (if known) with identifying information as to contents, assisting artists and published formats: 78rpm, LP, 45 rpm and CD. Preserved live performance recordings and complete commercially issued operas are listed by date, title, composer, the role sung by Rossi Lemeni in brackets, followed by conductor, leading singers and published formats. First and last names of conductors and singers appear in their initial listings while surnames are listed thereafter. If a performance was sung in a lanuage other than the original, it is indicated.
Some of the live performances and broadcasts in this list were recorded on acetate discs and reel-to-reel tapes and often circulated among collectors. Many have been available from time to time as CD-Rs and/or downloads from various and sometimes multiple sources. Known examples are indicated but without source(s) listed. Inquiries about possible availability can be obtained from suppliers such as Premiere Opera, Omega Opera Archives, House of Opera, Live Opera and Opera Depot. Opera Club specializes in Fiori downloads that come with printable art-work inserts and liners. Addresses and current listings can be found via the Web.
A few of the performances in this list carry a notation “preservation unconfirmed”. It is hoped that confirmation of their existence will eventually materialize.
The Operadis website www.operadis-opera-discography.org.uk contains detailed information about many of Rossi Lemeni’s opera recordings with cast lists and valuable references to critical commentary and reviews of releases in books and periodicals in several languages. Other sources used for preparation of this list include archival materials and programs from a number of theatres in which Sr Rossi Lemeni performed, catalogues of the commercial companies which recorded him, Gramophone, collector lists, auction lists, The World’s Encyclopaedia of Recorded Music and supplements by Francis F. Clough and G. J. Cuming, first published in 1952 by The London Gramophone Corporation in association with Sedgwick and Jackson Limited, 50 Anni di Opera Lirica alla RAI 1931-1980 by Giorgio Gualerzi and Carlo Marinelli Roscioni, Torino: Edizioni ERI/RAI. 1981, and the author’s collection. Special thanks to César A. Dillon for numerous details and verification of broadcast recordings which emanated from Buenos Aires. Appreciation to William Shaman for his sharing information regarding several scarce live recordings of Rossi Lemeni.
A link to YouTube posts of some recordings by Rossi Lemeni is at the end of this list.
